A Date with Friends. The Start of Something Wonderful.

Painting through the wee hours of the morning meant the city girl got some practice sleeping in. She’s getting better at it, but she has yet to master the art. Still being funemployed meant she could show up to a contract gig whenever. And she did just that.

She worked a little, ok maybe a bit more, but not much. After finishing up at work she stopped by home to freshen her face because she had a date with friends later that night. They were headed to the Nickelodeon theatre. And other places, keep reading, you’ll see where.

They met just before the film started and had some great conversation. They purchased beverages and snacks and found seats in just the right spot.

The great conversation continued and included film-goers around them. That’s the great thing about the Nick y’all. You’ll probably see someone you know, but if you don’t, you can sure bet that someone there is gonna make good conversation with you. If not, you might get lucky and see the Nick’s new Executive Director Andy Smith hanging around, or the infamous Larry Hembree, who is now the Capital Campaign Chair and Director of Special Programs.

Have you given to the Nick? Well, they’re moving up Main Street and they could use your support. It’s easy to do, just click here. The city girl has seen the new space and it’s gonna be just fabulous! The Nick has hosted many events there. Hopefully, you’ve been to a few, but if not, there will be plenty more opportunities. Just check their calendar or facebook page to stay informed.

So, the group of us went to see The Beginners. What a film. I’m not film critic, but I laughed and I cried and I everything-ed in between. The film chronicles Oliver who is shocked when he learns that his father has terminal cancer and is gay. We learn about his struggles and his adventures as he deals with both the death of his father and finding love. It’s worth watching. Here’s a trailer.

After they laughed and cried, they decided it was time to have more fun. So, they headed to the Whig under ABC Columbia. Did you know that the Whig offers $2 cocktails on Monday nights? Well, they do, so you may or may not find the city girl and some of her friends there on any given Monday night. Once they arrived, they ordered this.

There were more and the laughs continued. Who knows what they were laughing about? When they city girl and her friends are together there is most always laughter. They were joined later by another friend and the fun continued. The group stayed for a bit and few more beverages and then it was time to head home. Not all of the city girl’s friends are funemployed. So, until the next adventure.
